The best Chromebooks can give a decent Windows laptop or budget Mac a good run for its money today. They're cheaper than many alternatives, thanks to the free Chrome OS courtesy of Google/Alphabet, and some are powerful enough now to run fairly heavy-duty creative software too.

Over the last few years, we've ramped up our coverage and testing of Chromebooks both dear and cheap, as they become more capable tools for creatives. Our expert reviewers have tested a lot of them now, to see which ones we can recommend to graphic designers, graphic designers, home-workers and even video editors. To test these Chromebooks, we've not only run them through a gauntlet of benchmark testing (such as Geekbench, PC Mark and Cinebench), but also lived and worked with them over extended periods of time in real-world settings, seeing what their battery life is like, how the hardware holds up and what's great (and what's less fantastic) about each product.

Why you can trust Creative Bloq Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.
