iPhone 15 hands-on review: familiarity rules the day

With the Dynamic Island and other features inherited from the 14 Pro, can the iPhone 15 avoid feeling like last year's news?

Our Verdict

(rating is still tentative) First impressions of the iPhone 15 are familiar: it's very slick, very sleek, and very well made. It's now got the Dynamic Island and some other software solutions from last year's iPhone 14 Pro, but can a phone that's not the best at anything any more, but still very good at everything, continue to stand out from a taller crowd than ever? Jury's still out.

For

  • iOS 17 works great
  • Easy to set up
  • Great sound and good camera

Against

  • Slow charging
  • Older processor than 15 Pro

As I opened the box for my loan sample of the iPhone 15, I was reminded of how one of the best experiences involving iPhones and indeed any Apple products is the unboxing process.

All the boxes are so snugly put together, everything in them so neatly fitted, and the process of sliding the lid off and picking the covered handset out of the box feels almost delicate, a little mini-ritual.
