Creative vinyl installation

I'm occasionally asked to create wall installations in some varied spaces, such as shop windows or new studios.

However, once I'm working in that space, the sketch I bring along with me always changes - there's always something to be added to make it look more interesting. So I have to be prepared with enough cut pieces of vinyl to improvise on the spot.

Why use vinyl? A lot of people prefer to use paint or Posca markers when working on walls, but I'm not a fan of the finish they leave. I'm much more satisfied by the smooth, flat colour that can only be achieved with vinyl. In this tutorial I'll show you how to create one of my signature vinyl installations, from sketching out an idea, drawing it in Illustrator, hand-cutting and applying the self-adhesive vinyl to being able to improvise from the initial sketch.
