An iconic symbol of Japanese pop culture, manga style has evolved into a popular source of inspiration for creatives around the world.
Manga is fun, shamelessly kitschy and wholly unpretentious, making it a form of design that is appealing and easily understood by a wide demographic. Learning to draw manga doesn't require any formal training, just plenty of practice.
For this project, I drew the girls by hand and rendered them using Photoshop and Illustrator. If you haven't had any experience in manga style, you can use the outlines provided in the source files. If you can draw manga, then try applying the colouring techniques to your own characters and inking style. To complete the project, you will also need access to a pressure-sensitive graphics tablet. The final outcome is an unexpected hybrid of traditional soft shading and smooth vector artwork.
