I don't know about you, but by the end of the year my devices are starting to collapse due to the amount of files I failed to get round to backing up over the past 12 months. It's time to sort things out before work get back into full swing in January. Inevitably, that means getting more storage space, but happily there are some huge New Year portable SSD deals about right now.
The best January sale SSD deals see the tough Samsung T7 Shield 2TB SSD reduced from $289.99 to $183.84, a saving of over $100. This external SSD has a rugged design and provide transfer speeds of up to 1050MB/s – not the fastest, but 2TB of storage from a reliable brand for under $200 is an absolute bargain.
If you do want faster speeds, you can get a massive $290 off the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD: $509.99 $219.99 at Amazon. That's a saving of 57% on a light but rugged solid state drive that claims transfer speeds of 2,000MB/s (see our SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD review for our own verdict).
It used to be tempting to go for a cheaper hard disk drive (HDD) rather than fork out for a faster and more reliable solid state drive (SSD), but with these deals going the SSD result is a no brainer. Both options are available in 1TB too, also with big discounts, but considering how fast 1TB can fill up these days, especially when working with video and large image files, I'm going for 2TB.
See full details of the best New Year hard drive both of these deals below, or see our regular guide to the best external hard drives and SSDs.
