On-track design explorations
Jeffrey Bowman, AKA Mr Bowlegs, shows you how to enjoy experimenting without veering off-track from your brief
I get a lot of questions about the way I work, and most of the time the answer is far simpler than the design or illustration suggests.
It's key to plan out a strong composition and idea, then the rest will follow. A certain amount of naivety along the way helps to keep things exciting, but not being afraid to combine more rather than less can really add to the final illustration.
This tutorial will teach you how to combine many different elements to create an interesting and fun composition with a purpose, a journey through space portholes filled with gnarly textures and wiggly lines. Geometry, organic forms, bitmaps and hand-drawn elements might seem like a lot to squeeze into one image, but I'll guide you through the simple processes of creating this type of imagery using Photoshop and Illustrator, while keeping your brief and end goal in mind.
