Which game has the best art? These books settle the debate
From Elden Ring to Metal Gear Solid, these are my recommended game art books.
The debate over which game has the best art keeps cropping up, and much of it comes down to personal taste and the hit of nostalgia you get from seeing art for childhood games, so I've listed some of my favourite art books below to try to get close to solving this argument.
While it's easy to opt for newer releases on the best game consoles, I'm an old gamer and remember that there's more to life than PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Below you can find the likes of WipEout rubbing shoulders with Elden Ring and Persona 5, mixing it up with Monster Hunter World.
Now, there are some pricey books below, due to limited runs and collectible status, so if you want to be inspired by the art from Control, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy, it comes at a cost. Many here are newer games, but if you really want to get into retro game art, I'd recommend checking out Bitmap Books for new collections showcasing classic game box art.
