Corel Painter 2021: Unlock your full creative potential

By Creative Bloq Staff

Create beautifully realistic art with this powerful digital art studio.

It's fair to say 2020 has been a tough year. But no matter what is going on in the world, one thing remains: creativity never stops. And right now more and more artists are turning to the diverse toolset of Corel Painter 2021 to help bring their creative visions to life.

And it's not hard to see why. Professional digital art studio Corel Painter 2021 arrived this year with a host of new features, tools and performance enhancements, all of which help supercharge artists' workflow. Its exclusive Brush Accelerator™ initiative, the introduction of a new Thick Paint compatible category and Clone Tinting are just a few of the impressive new features that are getting creatives excited.

The recent enhancements to Corel Painter's exclusive brush technology, in particular, outperforms other digital art programs currently on the market. Here, in the first of a three-part series looking at Corel Painter 2021's killer new features, artist Davey Baker immerses himself in the software's new Thick Paint category.

Game-changing paints

Corel Painter 2021's new Thick Paint compatible brush category and improved Thick Paint brushes and workflow options are a game-changer for artists and designers. These new brushes can paint directly on to Corel Painter's specialised Thick paint layers. A handy icon at the bottom of the screen enables users to see what brushes are compatible in the library, and the overall experience of Painter 2021 is now much faster due to its Brush Accelerator technology. The Thick Paint brushes, for example, are now faster and smoother even at 100% and 200%.

There is also now the option to right click on a layer and change a specialised layer to default and back again, this is useful to paint on a default layer when using a non-compatible brush. This can also be done with the other specialised layers such as watercolour and liquid ink. A useful popup will tell you if you’re using a non- compatible brush on a specialised layer.

Thick paint in Corel Painter does an amazing job of replicating original style oil painting, especially with the introduction of a slider on top of the layer panel to help adjust the thickness of the wet paint.
