Pan's Labyrinth is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, we've been blessed with a brand new poster design. Since its release back in 2006, the film has grown into a cult classic perfectly encapsulating Guillermo del Toro's signature directorial aesthetic.

Known for its whimsical gothic world-building and downright terrifying creature effects, Pan's Labyrinth has stood the test of time across the past two decades, demonstrating the rich artistry to be found in filmmaking. Equal parts eerie and enchanting, this anniversary movie poster is the perfect homage to its cinematic legacy.

Created by extraordinary artist James Jean (the creator behind the equally beautiful Frankenstein poster), the new Pan's Labyrinth anniversary artwork is an artfully crafted homage. "I created a large physical drawing heightened with acrylic washes and white highlights, then scanned it and applied color digitally," James explains on Instagram.

The piece emerged from the motif of the crescent moon seen throughout the film, inspiring James to build an intricate world "suspended between above and below". At the centre, Ofelia resides atop the crouching figure of the haunting pale man. A mixture of grumsone, visceral and strangely beautiful, James' illustration captures a storybook whimsy that flows throughout the composition. Above the girl looms Pan, delicate and ethereal, blending with the natural imagery of the piece.
