The new Other Mommy poster nails uncanny horror
I’m scared... I just don’t know why.
It's been an exciting year for horror movie fans, with the releases of The Backrooms and Obsession proving that spooky cinema is well and truly back, but now there's a new release causing a stir. The eerie trailer for Rob Savage's Other Mommy has been unexpectedly terrifying moviegoers, thanks to its heart-racing score and visuals that have haunted minds well beyond the pre-show ads.
Alongside the trailer, horror fans have been praising the new movie poster for its effortlessly uncanny horror. A perfect demonstration of how simple movie posters can be just as effective as intricate design, the new Other Mommy poster has set high standards for what's to come.
The poster in question features a half close-up shot of actress Jessica Chastain with a menacing smile on her face, offset by a single tear running down her cheek. Amping up the eeriness, the poster's dynamic lighting is the star of the show, creating an uncanny effect that highlights Chastain's almost plastic-looking airbrushed skin and creepy expression. It sounds pretty innocuous, but the more I look, the creepier it seems to get.
"If the promotional poster is this creepy, I can’t even imagine what the actual movie is going to do to my heart rate," one X user wrote. "That smile alone deserves its own horror movie," another chimed in. As for the foreboding trailer, it seemed Other Mommy caught many casual viewers off guard. "The trailer played before The Odyssey and the whole theatre jumped. It looked so scary," one Redditor wrote, while another joked, "I just wanted to go see Matt Damon wander around the Mediterranean Sea, not poop my pants."
