Lily Allen’s provocative poster is a massive middle finger to the Grammys
It’s wonderfully unserious.
British singer Lily Allen is gunning for a Grammy, and her For Your Consideration (FYC) ad is perhaps the most nonchalant pledge ever. Creating a disarmingly raunchy (yet surprisingly classy) poster design, the artist once again proves the power of her offbeat branding for the West End Girl album.
Praised for her candid lyrics and immersive tour performances, Lily's West End Girl era has embraced chaos and the clumsiness of love and sex. Her strikingly lewd poster is yet another example of why the album's raw approach to music has earned her a shot at this year's Grammys.
The design features the polka-dot-patterned novelty USB flash drive butt plug that became the unexpected star of the singer's cheeky album campaign. Immediately contrasting the domestic connotation of polka dots with the sexualised object, the poster embodies the themes of the album with a wonderfully unserious playfulness.
The FYC phase of the Grammys is a chance for artists to promote their work in hopes that voting members will cast ballots in their favour. Lily's casual and provocative approach to this historically professional artist pitch is a wonderfully refreshing subversion of the rules, once again proving the artist isn't afraid to challenge convention and taboo.
