An iconic PS1 platformer is coming back with enhanced visuals and new moves
UK-based Argonaut Games is on a roll after its comeback last year. The developer that became a household name in the 1990s with Super NES titles like Star Fox and the Starglider series is already following up on its Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster with the classic game's sequel.
Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos is currently in development and targeting a Q4 2026 release, and yes, it will sport that original working title (for more nostalgic gaming action, see our pick of the best retro games consoles).
Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos is a remaster of the beloved sequel to the hit Croc Legend of the Gobbos, and it's in development for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam.
For those who don't remember, Croc 2 sees the hero head for the mainland in search of his parents. However, his journey becomes a showdown as his arch-nemesis, Baron Dante, is resurrected by the Dantinis and vows revenge. The quest takes Croc through four villages, where he rescues captured Gobbos and faces off against a roster of Guardians, including Soveena the Squid.
Argonaut promises enhanced visuals and a range of quality-of-life improvements. Along with all of Croc's classic moves, he can now triple jump for extra height.
While the game was originally released as Croc 2, this remaster restores the title Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos, the name used during the game's development.
Mike Arkin, co-CEO of Argonaut Games, says the remaster of the first game "exceeded what we hoped for", which made it an easy decision to move on to the sequel.

"Croc 2 was originally built on a totally different engine to Croc, posing its own set of remastering challenges, but the early work we did to validate our approach paid off," he adds.
As with the Crocipedia in the first remaster, Argonaut Games is again assembling an in-game digital museum. The Croc2pedia offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the adventure, with development materials, cut content, and interviews.
