The new Sennheiser ANC headphones might just make audiophiles out of us all
The HDB 630s marry wireless ANC convenience with 'true audiophile sound' (with a dongle).

This is all very exciting. No sooner had I discovered the ear-opening world of audiophile headphones, and started playing with the best commercial cans on offer, then Sennheiser announce a new pair of headphones that seemingly offer all the convenience of the latter with the audio quality of the former.
The Sennheiser HDB 630 headphones, available to pre-order now, go on sale on 21 October for $499, and I cannot wait to get a pair on my ears.
In a nutshell, the HDB 630s offer active noise cancellation, a 60 hour battery life and the app features of the Momentum series but also, when using the included dongle, they give you sound quality surpassing that of standard Bluetooth headphones – better than CDs, in fact!

The new HDB 630s share much of the design and feature set of Sennheiser's popular Bluetooth headphones the Momentum 4s.

Posh audio for the people!
That's because the dongle will enable aptX, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive audio, and so you'll get up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution. In context, the Momentum 4s offer 16-bit/48 kHz – when wired! This dongle connection will introduce high quality resolution while still being totally wireless.
As for its sound profile, the HBD 630 will have an 'audiophile tuning' – think, balanced frequency profile with no bloated bass and sky high treble, as you'll find in most commercial headphones, and loads of detail and separation.
It'll also have a 6Hz to 40kHz frequency response (most ANC cans have 6Hz to 22kHz), and you'll also get a full parametric equalizer, allowing you to really dig into tweaking your music to make it sound the way you want.

Design-wise, the new HDB 630 will look a lot like the Momentum 4 (hence me using photos of that on this page). But representatives of Sennheiser have confirmed on Reddit that this is not an addition to that line – the HDB 630s are their own thing.
And the clue's in the name. They are in fact an addition to the legendary HD 6 series (including the HD 600 and HD 650 audiophile headphones). The HD in the name is a nod to that, and B is a nod to their Bluetooth capabilities.
Of course, a lot is promised when it's pre-sale time, but short of all this being barefaced lies, I think the Sennheiser HDB 630s could possibly offer a high end audio experience to a commercial audience (who can afford the $500 price tag), and that's a really big deal.
