I hope Nothing's new product tease isn't what it looks like

While many of us have been blinkered by the great Apple vs Android war, Nothing has been brooding on the sidelines, slowly becoming the beloved black sheep of the tech world. With a distinct aesthetic and playful attitude, the brand has developed somewhat of a cult following for its unexpected design, and its latest drop might be the strangest yet.

Over the weekend, the brand released a cryptic post teasing a new addition to its (a) series (a serious contender for the best iPhone for photography). While many might expect a close-up of a phone or perhaps a new accessory, in typical Nothing fashion, the unexpected image resembled none other than a single condom packet. Don't worry, I'm just as confused as you are.

Whispers of the new Nothing (4a) have been circulating for months, with fans eagerly waiting for a teaser – this prophylactic promo probably isn't what they had in mind. With the Phone (3) impressing in both form and function, the (4a) has some big shoes to fill, which makes me think there's more to this saucy teaser than meets the eye.

Many took the post literally, predicting that Nothing-branded condoms would be dropping soon, while others thought it was a belated Valentine's Day spoof. "Hope it does't come too soon - no rush, take your time," one fan joked.

Others began theorising that the 'condom' could be a red herring, potentially hiding the new (4a) chip, a smart ring, or even an AirTag dupe. "The marketing intern needs a raise or needs to be fired, I can't decide which," one fan wrote, while another pointed out, "Nothing 4a series coming soon, but they never said it's a smartphone or a condom... just saying."
