AirPods Max out, Sony XM6 in: I've tried all the leading Bluetooth cans, and I have some strong opinions!

Two excellent Bluetooth headphones in blue colour ways.

I've tried pretty much all of the leading commercial Bluetooth headphones at this point, and I have some favourites.

For me value and comfort are as important as the sound profile of the headphone. That's because most of these things come with an app where you can tweak the sound to your liking. Also, out of the main five Bluetooth headphones, they all sound pretty great out of the box.

But wireless, Bluetooth headphones are all about convenience and using them over several hours at a time. So their comfort is super important. Add to that that the retail price of some of these are eye-watering, and I'm really keen to highlight the headphones that offer real value.

So, with all that in mind, here are my Prime Day hits and misses.

Sennheiser Momentum 4
Save $91
Sennheiser Momentum 4: was $270 now $179 at Amazon

This is the headphone that I'm currently wearing at work. This is the headphone that I choose to wear, even though I've got all of them at my disposal. That's because it's light, looks good, and I like the features and controls. It also sounds great. It's ALSO by far the cheapest of all the headphones on this page, as the Momentum 5 has come out. It's still the best all-rounder headphone on sale today.

Bose QC Ultra 1
Save $180
Bose QC Ultra 1: was $449 now $269 at Amazon

These are very light, and very comfortable headphones that have a simple yet effective app for EQ. I can get these to sounds really good, though the out-of-the-box sound is a little bass-heavy for me. I've had issues with the ANC failing on public transport, where a gust of wind from an open window breached the headphones seal. Other than that, these are excellent. Also, they're cheaper now as the newer QC 2 was released recently (I'd definitely go for these)

Apple AirPods Max
Save $150
Apple AirPods Max: was $549 now $399 at Amazon

This is a weird one – this is the record low price on the AirPods Max, and I'm still hesitant to recommend them to you. They sound great, but there's no app, no EQ. That makes this the only top Bluetooth headphones where you can't tweak the sound. They also look cool, but they're the heaviest option on this page, and they get really uncomfortable after 30 to 40 minutes use. And still they're one of the most expensive options! Also, that diaper case!! Really hard to recommend.

Sony WH-1000XM6
Save $81
Sony WH-1000XM6: was $459 now $378 at Amazon

Yes, these are bass cannons, and yes, there have been complaints about the comfort of them over long listening sessions. But I find I can tame the bass pretty easily with the accompanying app, and I could get an hour before I need to take them off (no such issue with the Momentum 4, above). They're do offer the best ANC, and that's great, but they're also the most expensive option on the page.
