When it comes to audio, expensive doesn't always mean good, and cheap doesn't always mean bad. I don't think there's any other product that better proves the latter point than the Kiwi Ears Cadenza II in-ear monitors. They're a deal at $50, and a steal at $47.50 over at Amazon.
And I speak as someone who has just finished an in-depth review of them – a near-perfect 4.5 star review, no less. Have a read if you're ion the fence. The short version is, the Cadenza IIs offer a grown up, mids-forward sound profile that has plenty of sub bass, and a balanced, non-offensive treble. The result is everything you play on it will sound great.
That's one of the reasons that I'm going to bump it straight to the top of my list of the best budget friendly in-ear monitors (IEMs). It's really that good.
Both Cadenzas on sale!
I love these in-ear monitors – in fact I had no sooner given them a near perfect score in my in-depth review, then they go on sale! Down from the already great price of $50, they are now $47.50 from Amazon. It's a bargain!
I also own these IEMs, and although I really like them, I think the second generation is a pretty big step up in sound and build quality. Still, they're down to a record low price of $33, so they're still a recommendation. A fun v-shape sound profile awaits!
I've also spotted that the previous generation is on sale, and starts a lot cheaper than the IIs. Personally, I would stump up the extra $14 and go for the newer (and to my ears better) Cadenza II.
What you get
The one thing that I thought was missing from the Cadenza II package was a bag to carry them in. You have to just stuff them in your pocket – as is the case with budget IEMs. Not making a leatherette pouch is one way companies can keep the final price so low.
What's jarring about it with the IIs is that the quality of materials that you get with them, I think, deserves a dedicated carrying bag. And I'm not talking about a spare Tesco bag.
