"But I need it for the alarm!" That's what people normally say when I suggest they stop taking their phone to bed with them. Since banning ye olde iPhone from my bedroom a couple of years back, I've noticed a marked improvement in my sleep. No more last-minute doomscrolls before sleep. No more first-minute doomscrolls after sleep. Just me, my clear head and my sanctimoniousness. Bliss.

But of course, I did have to buy an alarm clock. I opted for a classic, arguably the classic, the Braun AB1. This tiny travel clock launched in 1971. Created by design legend Dieter Rams, it looks timeless, it tells you the time, and it wakes you up. And right now, it's 24% off at Amazon, bringing the price down from £26 to £20.

With its iconic design, compact size, luminous hands and crescendo beep alarm, the Braun Classic Travel Alarm Clock is the most timeless timepiece around.

It might have a different model number, but the BC03B above is directly based on the original AB1, and features the same minimalist round face and iconic yellow second hand. This one has a few extra bells and whistles, including a light-up face and snooze function.

From James Bond's pen to the most beautiful coffee machine around, Prime Day has given us plenty of great deals on design icons this week.
