Forget Switch Prime Day deals, the gorgeous GameSir G7 Pro 8K PC controller is perfect and 20% off right now
Yes, I'm an unapologetic PC gamer. Yes, I know it's more expensive. Which is why I'm helping you get those gaming endorphins for less.
My friends here on the vaunted Creative Bloq Council of Creative Gamers really love the Nintendo Switch (and the Switch 2, even those who got one late). And yes, I like it too. I was raised on the NES in the late '80s and early '90s, after all. The Super Mario theme lives rent free in my head. I still vividly remember pressing the Duck Hunt gun flush against the screen of my small old CRT television to try to top my friend's high score (without success, I might add).
But ever since being introduced to the wonders of personal computing in the mid-90s, I have been obsessed with PC gaming. Sure, I've had consoles. I've got a PlayStation, I've had Xbox in the past, and I've played Switch with friends. And sure, it's fun.
But has it ever been enough to overpower my passion for the high-performance PC experience? Nope.
And with things like the GameSir G7 Pro 8K wireless controller made specifically for that platform, I don't think I'll ever change, I'm afraid. And it's 20% off right now, too, so you won't even have to wait for the late-stage-capitalist horrors of Prime Day to descend upon us in a few days.
So it's good then? Tell me how you really feel
Right, sit down.
First off, this Aimlabs collab from GameSir features the former brand's iconic cyan colour scheme and the Aimlabs logo front and centre on the power button, so it looks gorgeous. (Unless you hate colour and flair, which means I'm afraid we can't be friends.)
The 8000Hz polling rate over both wired and 2.4G wireless connections is the fastest I've ever experienced on a wireless controller, and it has completely eliminated any lag or input delay I've sometimes suffered from in previous wireless models (not great when I'm headed directly towards a wall in Forza Horizon at 200 mph...).
The sticks use 'Mag-Res' technology, which in human language means they are magnetic to eliminate stick drift and offer greater input precision (see above point about walls, Forza, and speed). The trigger stops are dual-mode, so I can switch between Hall Effect analog triggers and micro-switch triggers. The former is ideal for racing, the latter for RPGs and hectic shooters.
And in addition to the now-expected remappable back buttons, there are extra L5 and R5 buttons next to left and right triggers, also remappable. The 6-axis gyroscope offers good motion control, although I might have to admit defeat in my mission to ever fully master motion-control techniques in action (buh-bye, aspiring space pilot career).
And the rumble motors are immersive and nuanced rather than thunderous and distracting.
So yes, it's pretty good.
And it's discounted, you say?
A-yup.
The RRP for the GameSir G7 Pro 8K is $89.99 in the US and £99.99 in the UK, but right now, you can get this wondrous little device on GameSir's website for 20% less than that if you use the discount code MIDYEARSALE.
That means that UK buyers can save £19.99, bringing the price down to £80, and US shoppers will knock $17.99 off the sticker price, taking it down to $72. And that, my friends, is not bad for a high-end controller.
