REVIEW: Flowboard for iPad

This free iPad app enables you to create portfolios, presentations and photo slideshows. But is it any good?

Our Verdict

Flowboard is a little fiddly, but the results are terrific, especially for a free app. It’s a shame there aren’t more ways to share them.

Should you ever find yourself having to prove the iPad's credentials as a tool for creativity, you could do worse than turn to Flowboard (opens in new tab). This elegantly designed app allows you to create portfolios, presentations and photo slideshows, and it produces beautiful results.

You can start from scratch or choose from a large number of templates. After selecting a template option, you tap on a box and add an image, video or some text.

The boxes themselves can be dragged around and re-sized, and their content can be scaled using the familiar two-fingered pinch and un-pinch gestures.

Our only complaint here is that while there are smart guides to help you align boxes, they pop up arbitrarily and not when you need them most.

You can share your work, but only on Flowboard's servers. That's not a huge issue unless you run up against the 20GB storage limit, at which point you can pay £2.99/$4.99 for the premium version.
