This hand-drawn game is like a retro cartoon set in the deteriorating body of a middle-aged man

Oh, My Doug! hand-drawn indie game that looks like a '90s cartoon

There's a real thing for '90s cartoon aesthetics in game art lately, from Rain98 to Being Food. Yet none has taken that inspiration in a direction that's quite so... visceral. Oh, My Doug is an upcoming metroidvania set inside the body of a very unhealthy middle-aged man.

The game features very weird scenarios: you'll be able to chat with a talking sperm cell and wander a cemetery in your host's bowels. There are weird weapons, and everything is drawn by hand and animated frame-by-frame.

The premise is that Doug, the man you're living inside, wants to try to get healthy. This provokes panic among some of the tiny inhabitants of his organism. The player must blend their abilities and battle through a body that wants rid of them, exploring interconnected regions all inspired by organs and bodily functions.

Developer Odd Men In Studios says anatomy naturally shapes the game's navigation, opening up a strange world of exploration. And the retro animation style seems to perfectly fit the grotesque comedy.

You can wishlist Oh, My Doug on Steam.
