You may have seen them lurking in the background of my review pictures for a while, but the Edifier MR5 are the latest, and without a doubt the greatest, pair of speakers to grace my home-based office desk. I love listening to music while working, I work with audio and video a lot in my job as well, and obviously I need Proper Good Sound for my gaming too.

Now, these aren't the cheapest speakers you'll find on the market, but if you know Edifier (and if you don't, you need to educate yourself), you know that they make high-quality audio kit for discerning listeners. I've tested several of their headphones, gaming speakers and bookshelf speakers over the last few years, and they are yet to disappoint me.

Edifier MR5
Save £80
Edifier MR5: was £279.99 now £199.99 at Amazon

A fantastic set of speakers, they're usually out of most normal people's budget range, but with £80 off, conveniently dipping them below the £200 mark, they are suddenly just about affordable for a lot more people.

So, they're good then?

Er, yuh. The MR5 is engineered for accurate sound reproduction using the company's own patented acoustic design and a dedicated tri‑amped active crossover that separates bass, mid, and treble amplification for cleaner, more detailed output. They're primarily made for music production, video editing, and critical listening where neutrality and detail matter. They're not too bass-y or treble-y. For me, they're real Goldilocks speakers; just right. I love using them when editing video as well as just when listening to music while working on things like this spotlight feature.
